Staff and students at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College are today celebrating outstanding AS and A Level results. The College is the largest examination centre in Shropshire with 1,340 students taking more than 5,000 individual examinations in 41 different subjects. Results at the College are significantly above national averages in terms of pass rates and points scores.
Commenting on the achievements Principal designate, Martin Ward, said, 'These are tremendous results at every level. The high pass rates reflect the commitment of students and staff. It is particularly pleasing to see 50% of 'A' level passes at Grades A and B. This serves as a strong base for student progression to Higher Education and Employment. Underlying the headline rate there are many individual success stories. 8 students this year have achieved the grades required for Oxford and Cambridge Universities. I am looking forward to working with staff and students to build on these very firm foundations.'
Principal, Bill Dowell, who retires at the end of August, offered his 'warmest congratulations' to students and staff. 'I am delighted that yet again the AS and A level results are outstanding. It has been a great privilege to lead a College that has such an impressive record of sustained excellence in academic performance. Such fine achievements reflect the commitment of the students, the dedication of the staff team and the foundations for learning developed in our primary and secondary partner schools.'
