The staff and students of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College are following with interest the journey of former student Liam Shaw as he represents Balliol College, Oxford in the BBC’s University Challenge programme.
Liam impressed everyone with his breadth of knowledge and speed on the buzzer.
Coming from Meole Brace School, Liam studied Physics; Further Maths; Chemistry; English Literature and General Studies whilst at SSFC gaining A’s across the board. He was also a talented musician and a keen and quick witted debater. It is his broad level of interest that gives him the ability to answer questions across the arts/science divide making him such a strong team member – although he is studying Physics at degree level.
His Balliol team narrowly squeezed past Merton College Oxford in the programme shown on Monday 5 December and all college eyes will be fixed on his next performance with everyone hoping that he will make it to the final!
“Liam was one of our most gifted students. It is terrific to see him flourishing at Balliol College and it is a pleasure to see him performing so well under the pressure of the TV lights and questioning by Jeremy Paxman!” said Rob Kinnersley ~ Head of Maths.
