Welcome to the Careers and Progression Department (based in the Study Centre). Our aim is to provide advice and guidance to all students on any matters relating to careers, employment or higher education. This advice includes career counselling, job applications, course applications, apprenticeships, work experience, interview techniques and planning a gap year. Students can book an appointment with Sarah Jarrett, the College Student Guidance and Progression Manager, or Sue Ratcliffe, the Personal Adviser from Shropshire Youth Connexions, or alternatively ‘drop in’ for general advice.
Our Progression Evening (held on 16 February 2011 - click here for information from the evening) is a useful opportunity for Year 1 students to discuss careers with local employers from a range of occupational areas and to find out more about going into Higher Education. We also hold a second evening in July for students and parents to here more specific information about UCAS processes and options.
All Year 1 students attend a presentation in the summer term, which explains the options available to them when they leave College. There are also presentations on specific subjects such as applying to Oxford and Cambridge. Every year we run a trip to a national Higher Education fair, usually in the summer term, which students have found useful to obtain specific information on over 100 institutions.
The Careers Library contains a range of literature, university prospectuses and information leaflets and students are encouraged to come and browse through the information.
You can download some of the information leaflets by clicking on the links on the right hand side. Further information on the Careers/Progression Department at SSFC is given in the brochure entitled 'Careers Dept' which can be found in the downloads list.
