Congratulations and comisserations to James Carter who was one of the musicians who competed recently the Shropshire Concerto Competition.

Held at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severm in front of a packed audience, the annual competition profiles the best of Shropshire's young musicians who were accompanied by the Shropshire Sinfonia. The other finalists were Rosie Powell Davies, 18, Freya Little, 17, and 16-year-old Holly Scutt.

James, who plays the trombone, is a A* grade student who is hoping to go onto study medicine after finishing his A levels.

The winner was cellist Rosie Powell Davies from Shrewsbury High School. BBC Radio Shropshire will broadcast the competition on 13 April.
