Staff and students at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College have achieved the best ever A Level and AS Level results. The College is the largest A level examination centre in Shropshire with 1,330 students taking more than 5,270 individual examinations in 45 different subjects. Results at the College are significantly above national averages in terms of pass rates and points scores.

662 students, which is a record number, took A levels. The pass rate was a stunning 98.7% with significantly high proportions of higher grades with A-B grades at 57% and A-C grades at 80%. This outstanding performance reflects the commitment of students and staff. This serves as a strong base for student progression to Higher Education and Employment.

At A level students took a very wide range of courses and there was excellence across the board. There were over 100 entries in each of Mathematics, Geography, Psychology, Sociology and, over 200 entries in Biology, Chemistry, English and Physics.

At AS level – the first year of the A level course - over 650 students have received their results which again were the highest grades in the college’s history. It is particularly pleasing to see such high achievement in a year which saw the introduction of new specifications at AS level and the introduction of the Extended project which was taken by 45 students and over 50% gained a grade A or A*.

Underlying the headline rate there are many individual success stories. 6 students this year have achieved the grades required for Oxford and Cambridge Universities and 74 students have gained all grade As in all their A level exams.

Tim Jones the Chair of the Corporation offers his ‘warmest congratulations’ to students and staff. He is delighted that the AS and A level results have improved even further and exceed national benchmarks. Student achievements are built on the commitment of the students and staff and reflect the excellent work of the primary and secondary partner schools.’
