Governance

Welcome to the Governance section of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College's website. You will be able to find information within these pages concerning the workings of the governing body (referred to as 'The Board'), details of the committees including minutes and governance policies and procedures.

Being a governor of SSFC is a very challenging but satisfying experience. Governors contribute their collective skills and experience to the governing body in a non-executive capacity on an unpaid basis. Their role is to determine the direction and stategy of the college, to be accountable for the proper use of public funds entrusted to it, and to oversee the quality of all it does. The Principal is also a governor. The governing body does not manage the college or organise its day to day affairs, which is the job of the principal who is appointed by the Board.

Tim Jones, Chair of Board comments  'I am always impressed by the passion and expertise that the staff at SSFC bring to their work to benefit learners at the college. Students are rightly at the heart of the college.'

From time to time we have vacancies in the membership of the Governing Body.

The Board are committed to ensuring that the Governing Body is comprised of members who bring with them a combination of skills, expertise, knowledge, common sense and direct experience relevant to the work of the College.

To ensure that the Board is well balanced and changing in step with the development of the College and its community, the members periodically identify gaps in membership and take active steps to recruit new members when vacancies occur.

New Board members are offered induction in their roles and responsibilities and the work of the College and existing members are offered a training and development programme to update their knowledge.
