Year 6 and 7 Summer School

SSFC has been organising a highly successful Summer School for Gifted and Talented Year 6 and 7 pupils for the past eight years. All primary and secondary schools in Shrewsbury are invited to nominate pupils in the top 5% of the year group who they feel would benefit from the programme. Demand for places is high with only 25 places available. All places are free with students needing to provide their own lunch and appropriate clothing eg. wellies! More information is available for students and parents after offers for a place have been made and accepted.

The aims of the Summer school are to:

  • engage and stretch pupils
  • develop thinking skills
  • develop mathematical skills
  • develop IT skills
  • develop social skills
  • raise pupils’ aspirations
  • aid transition
  • provide a stimulating and enjoyable experience in ways that are likely to have long lasting effects and will prove valuable to the continuing learning processes of the children concerned

Specialist tutors design and plan activities to engage and stretch whilst being fun and different from mainstream education. Aspects of the activities are within the school curriculum but the children will experience a topic at a higher level. In addition the activities support the development of literacy and numeracy.

The dates of the summer school this year are 26 July to 6 August inclusive. Students are expected to attend everyday.
