Key benefits of work placements.

  • Develops essential skills – Work placements help students to develop a range of skills essential for the workplace, such as communication, organisation, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Provides content for CVs, personal statements and job applications – Placements in a real workplace relevant to the college course provide useful content for future applications and can help students stand out from others.
  • Increases independence and self-confidence – On placement, students will work with new people and may work independently on tasks or contribute to the team on specific projects.
  • Helps support career decisions - A placement provides insight into a specific sector and different job roles, and can be key in making career choices.

Industry Placements (T Levels)

Each T Level is equivalent in size to 3 A Levels and helps young people develop the knowledge, attitude, and practical skills to thrive in the workplace. At the heart of each course is an industry placement that every T Level student completes, lasting a minimum of 315 hours (the Early Years T Level requires 750 hours). Industry placements give the employer a unique opportunity to help develop new talent in their industry and prepare young people for work. Placements often develop into an apprenticeship or paid employment.

Placements can be in a wide range of companies, and Shrewsbury College conducts thorough checks to ensure all settings are safe and appropriate for our students.
